Testing

Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer testing consists of analyzing estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen and progesterone tests results will appear on your pathology report and understanding these results is important, as this information affects your treatment as well as your follow-up care if you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Receptor status will show whether both of these hormones are contributing to your tumor. Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer is slower growing and has a better chance to respond to hormone-suppression treatment than hormone receptor-negative cancer.

Testing Results

An estrogen or progesterone receptor-positive test result means that estrogen is causing tumor growth and that the cancer should responsd to hormone suppression treatment.
